weekly weigh in

London Zoo Weigh In Day!
My week went well!
Here are my stats:
sw: 152
cw: 145.8
gw: 136
Last week I weighed 147.8 so that is a 2 lb loss!

My new habit of getting up at 6am is working out wonderfully! I don't even think about it or try to negotiate it in my head- I JUST DO IT!  I think the logic from my last post has helped so much.

COMMENTS ON MY SEMINAR
While sitting in class I realized I'm a healthy fit person!  I just never have given myself the credit. What I have to point out though is that it did not happen overnight. When I think back I did make small changes here and there. For instance, I use to be hooked on diet coke, then there was a phase of tortilla chips! I use to eat them with every meal.  Oreo cookies are my weakness even  still.   And I didn't just one day wake up and cut all of this out of my diet..it was baby steps and look where I am now, I don't eat any processed foods, no cereal, no protein bars, no t.v dinners.  It is all natural.

If you are unhappy with your life then do something about it! If you are unhappy with your weight then do something about it!
Take responsibility!   I am constantly surrounded by people who are not living the lives they want but will not take initiative to change, they want to blame other people.   If you don't like your career, your living situation, your relationship, your weight then CHANGE!   I don't understand why everyone tip toes around this situation.  People are always giving advice on going to college, where you should live, where to invest money, who you should marry ..even how to be a parent! but no one would ever dare tell an overweight person to lose weight!  Isn't this crazy? Why do we give them excuses?
Whenever the issue of obesity comes up it is always followed by excuses like depression, medical issues, it;s hereditary...well don't you think those are reasons to take control of  your weight? But people use those reasons to justify why they are overweight!
I have to leave you with this post from  THE HOUSE OF SMITHS  Most of you are aware of this blog. She is very talented and so cute,  her blog is about making improvement in her family and home and recently she even started blogging about her weight!  I hope it can inspire you.

weekly weigh in:

I'll get straight to it-last weeks weigh in was 149
Here are my stats today:
SW:152
CW: 147.8
GW: 136

This morning the scale read 147.8     I lost 1.2lbs!  That is great!
I have worked out every day this week and my eating habits are better. I noticed in the past sometimes I would lose 2 lbs in a week then .5 the next so I'm going to be patient.

I have to share this Amazing 6 week Seminar that I am participating in. It started Thursday night and its called Powerful Brain. Health Body.

I'm hoping it will give me the tools needed to lose 10 lbs.
Something that stuck with me is he said not to focus on Bad Habits and getting rid of them. Just create new healthy habits and focus on the new healthy habits!
The first habit that I am creating is waking up at 6am every weekday and working out.  So far so good. Monday was a holiday so I started on Tuesday, oh, now that I think about it I slept in till 7am on Thursday...but its a start, I worked out tues, wed and friday morning.
Now I have to think really hard about other new habits that I want.

There were 2 questions in our packet that we have to answer...it took some thinking but this is what I came up with:
Why do I want to lose 10 lbs?
I want to inspire and motivate those that I care about
I feel like losing 10 lbs is enough to change my appearance then others will notice and be inspired.Think about it..where does most of your inspiration come from? Not books, gimmicks or exercise machines but actual people!   When I need some motivation I look at before/after pictures of actual people who lost weight.
To have that feeling of accomplishment
People would say "you don't need to lose 10lbs" Why not? Why not be the healthiest you can be? Plus I like the challenge.   It really boosts your self esteem and gives you the courage and confidence to try other things..
Why is it important to me?
I value my health. I thank god every morning for my health. If you don't have your health you cannot enjoy your life. I am thankful for so many things, my husband, daughter, work, my family...but if I'm not healthy then its really hard to enjoy all the blessings in my life. Think of a time you have had the flu...you would give anything to feel better again right?      I want to live a healthy lifestyle so I can be a good example for everyone around me!  My husband, my daughter, family members, neighbors, coworkers, etc.     There are too many people out there that don't work out, don't eat healthy, they are depressed, tired, sick..but will not exercise...  I just don't get it???     If I can lose weight I hope that others will see me and get inspired as well.  There are a lot of people in my life that I care about that don't exercise and also eat junk! I want to motivate them.
I have noticed in the past year I have become very passionate about nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. It all started from a program and my work called Healthy Utah. Once a year you can make an appointment and they will do a health assessment, if you pass then you get $50.  Passing would be a bmi of  26 or less and if you don't fall under 26 then they have other incentives like losing 10lbs, quit smoking, lowering your blood pressure. Its a really good benefit that not very many people take advantage of.  (Now that I say that I am curious to know the % of employees that do participate in this)

I will end with this alarming statistic that was thrown out during our seminar:
People with a BMI above 30 call in sick on average 14x a year!
People with a  BMI under 25 call in sick on average 4x a year!

weekly weigh in

ok people I suck. Don't  look to me for inspiration.
funny quotes health - Google Search
The scale will not budge! I have exactly 4 weeks to lose 10lbs!!
Weigh in for this week:  149lb   so no loss or gain there.

SW: 152
CW: 149
GW: 136
I was doing so good at the first of the week but once Valentines Day came, so did the candy. My husband brought home thee best caramel corn drizzled with chocolate..then my mom bought a little box of chocolate for my daughter then I made sugar cookies.
I didn't have a problem with the cookies however I ate all the broken pieces!!!

Embedded image permalinkYou've heard that the broken chips are 0 calories right? well I told myself that the cookie crumbs and pieces were 0 calories as well. The only problem.....the scale didn't think so!

On a positive note I have registered for a Seminar called :Powerful Minds Healthy Bodies.
It's a seminar that is being offered through my employer so me and a couple friends signed up. It is beginning this upcoming Thursday. It could not have come at a better time because I'm telling you- I am struggling!
Its a 6 week program and we will meet up once a week. I can't wait for the first meeting, I hope its worth the time.

k I have another positive (despite what the scale shows) I have been getting up early and going to the gym first thing. Once I hit the off button on the alarm I am up. I noticed if my head hits the pillow I will go back to sleep (duh) so right when the alarm goes off I jump out of bed, get my coffee and go to the gym!

So hopefully with the Powerful Minds Seminar and My morning gym routine I will see the scale go down again. Crossing my fingers.

weekly weigh in

So I got on the scale this morning and it read 147.  Not good but I know what I did wrong. ...it all went down yesterday.  I was so good during the week..I was even down to 145.8  Then friday came along and I made chicken tortilla soup. Well it was so good I had it for lunch and dinner. Then my daughter brang home cheetos. Wow, I have not had them in a while and they are pretty good. I also slacked on my water intake.
The good news is that I know what I need to do to lose the weight. We Will try again this next week.
Here are my stats:
SW: 152
CW:147
GW: 136
Wow, the goal weight of 136 seems so drastic to me however it is only 11 lbs away and I met my 10 lb challenge last fall so I should be able to make this goal as well.
My Deadline is March 16th   That would be a 1 lb loss weekly....Thats pretty realistic however I have not gotten off to a good start.  I'll leave you with this poster that helps me keep going.

The Results are in

I weighed myself this morning and I got 144.4 !
Wow, last week I weighed 147  That is a 2.6lb loss!

I think the reason why it was so extreme is because last week I had my period and was also munching on Special K Cereal and Raisin Bran Crunch.  They are loaded with sugar.
This past week I cut out all sugary cereal, drank ALOT of water and started sewing again. When I sew the time flies and I forget to eat!
So my first post about weight loss started off as running for 28 days straight. It then turned into my journey to lose 10 pounds. I'm telling you it has helped so much to blog about it. and another thing that is fun 10 weeks later is looking back and reading the past posts.
I love this poster:

I'm in my 11th week and I'm sure glad I stuck with it!
I have been trying to lose these last 10 lbs for a couple years now and I'm finally doing it!
On Sept 10 I weighed 153 And that is the day I recommitted to losing 10lbs by December.
Well today I weighed in at 144.4   so I have lost 9lbs!!!  Not too shabby!
And of course it was hard!! You can read my previous posts and see that every week I did not have a loss. Believe me it is not easy. Some weeks I gained a pound but you just have to never ever give up!
I put together a collage of things that have helped me.
weight loss

Let me point out some things. Notice the Pitbull album?  I always listen to Pitbull on pandora, the  music is amazing for cardio. When I'm running or on the eliptical, his music gets me going.
Green Tea is another necessity. I drink that right after my meals. It seems to take away sweet cravings before they start. And there are so many benefits that come from green tea. I still can't believe it is 0 calories.
"EVERYDAY JUST DO IT"    Some days I try to talk my self out of going to the gym or zumba...then I have to yell at my self "JUST DO IT"   just go. Believe me I am the queen of excuses not to work out. I've just had to yell at myself to shut up and JUST GO!     EVERYDAY JUST DO IT!    Its that simply.
So I hope I have motivated you to lose weight!

barely hanging on..

So yesterday I went to see Breaking Dawn with my daughter and had MoViE ThEaTre PoPcOrN!!
I had about 5 handfuls...I think the salt was the most damaging. ..However I did do a HIIT work out.
This one is similar to what I did.
Source: indulgy.com via Kerri on Pinterest

Instead of 50 seconds I did 60 seconds by using the timer on my phone.  So I had my headphones in my ears listening to music and my timer would go off every 60 seconds and I would change workouts. I was dripping with sweat after about 12 minutes. And on Sunday I actually did this for 30 minutes!

If you are not familiar with HIIT workouts here is a great guide:

So then I gotta talk about today.
K, you know how cartoons always show the good angel/bad angel?
This could have not been more accurate for me tonight. I almost did not go to zumba because of the bad angel (I don't like referring him as the "d" word)!  The bad angel kept saying " just go tomorrow, you are too tired tonight" And the good angel said "don't listen, just go, you already have on your workout gear. you will not regret it" so I basically told the negative part of me to shut up and I grabbed my keys and drove to zumba. I am so glad I did it. Now that I just admitted that I have these conversations in my head you probably think i'm crazy?? lol. But isn't it true that we let our own selves get in the way?  And I'm not just talking about fitness, I'm talking about in our careers and our relationships. I always bad talk myself but now I need to realize it's that little red guy trying to break me down! If I can have this mentality every day I will definitely meet my fitness goals!
So the moral of this story is to not listen to the little  red guy!

saturday weigh in

another loss!

So the scale reads 145.8
This is a loss of  .4 lbs.
Last week I weighed 146.2
So my total loss since 9/10/12 is 7.2 lbs! Not too bad right? It is a slow process and as I go thru the weeks I always think i'm not making a difference or that the difference is so minimal but it does take patience. The weight will come off but it is a slow process. Blogging about it has helped me so much. I have 3 weeks left of my 10lb journey. Dec 5th is my health assessment appointment so I really need to buckle down.

Now lets talk about Willpower.
This week I realize just how much i have. You don't just have it! you have to somehow create it yourself, it definitely takes practice. I was so hungry and there was a candy bar sitting in the pantry... to be more specific it was a Hershey bar... In the past  if I opened it I would eat the whole thing but not in this occasion. I opened it, ate 3 squares and threw the rest in the garabage!    ya hoooo! I have come a long way
I just get so sick and tired of not seeing any results and taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
This next week is going to be hard because its Thanksgiving. I need to decide ahead of time what I'm going to eat. Of course I'm going to have turkey, stuffing & yams. As far as pie I don't know?  I might have a tiny slice. I'm allowing myself to make that decision that day. If I don't feel like it I wont but I also know that if I have a tiny piece its not the end of the world and I won't have the guilt of "cheating"

Here's to a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so grateful for my family, my home, my job and my health. I think having a healthy body is so important because there is not much you can do if you don't have your health!
I'm going to leave you with this picture to help you get mentally prepared for the big day!

Saturday Weigh In

starting weight: 153       9/10/12
current weight :146.2
goal weight:  140         12/5/12

So last saturdays weigh in was 147.4   and today I weigh 146.2 so I am down 1.2lbs!
Hopefully I can keep heading in that direction. As I have mentioned before I have a health assessment appointment thru my work on 12/5/12  and if I meet my goal I will received a $50 rebate check!
SO i just need to stay positive, somewhere along this journey I have become so negative... just always thinking negative thoughts about my body image and constantly comparing it to others. why do I do this? why do so many of us do this? it's weird because I never compare myself to others as far as how much money I make, where I live, what I drive, etc. I have always been happy and grateful for what I have.
so to keep this a positive journey I am no longer going to feel guilty for eating lemon heads! I am going to keep it simple and have patience!  I am doing the best I can and that is good enough.

My 10lb Journey

Another Weigh in! Ugh. This week is not the greatest. but I guess I have to blog about the good, bad and the ugly! I got on the scale this morning and I gained .2lbs from last wednesday. So not only did I not lose ANY weight...I gained however I cannot get mad at the scale. I reviewed what I did this past week and its pretty pathetic. I gave myself the excuse of working on my cabinets being why I didn't work out! And I guess the shrimp nachos may have played a big part as well?
The past couple weeks I was running 2.5-3miles each day...then this past week I stopped??? Why did I stop? I justified working on my cabinets!  Ughh.  Trial and Error. I guess I have to keep working out as well as eating right (duh)
Here is a summary of my past week:
Wednesday 9/26/12 :  did NOT workout. ate well
Thursday (9/27/12) : did circuit training. ate well
Friday : did NOT workout. ate shrimp nachos at Red Lobster
Saturday: ran 30 mins (2.7 miles) ate well
Sunday: did NOT workout (worked on cabinets) ate well
Monday: did NOT workout (worked on cabinets) ate well
Tuesday: did NOT workout.  ate at Olive Garden

Writing this down is such a reality check! No wonder I didn't lose any weight. I didn't even work at it!

Even thougkh I'm not feelin' it right now I'm going to talk about my favorite apps and workouts.
t

On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday I go to Planet Fitness (clearly that didn't happen this past week). They have a circuit training workout that takes 30 minutes to complete. In that area there is also a green light-red light that goes off every 60 seconds. its designed to do high intensity jumping, stepping, jump rope...anything high intense. then the light turns red and you stop and go to a weight machine so every 60 seconds you are changing from weights to high intensity cardio. I guess you can call this a HIIT which you can read about  here.  The other days I run 2.5-3 miles although the past couple days I have not. I need to come up with a plan b  because it is getting darker a little earlier and I'm running out of daylight to go running :(

Some fitness apps I have on my phone are the following:
Sparkpeople diet tracker.
This one is helpful because this is where I track all my foods. It tells me how many calories and protein and fat etc are in each meal I eat.
Workout Trainer.
I love this! It is chucked full of all different types of work out routines. It also has different HIIT routines. You can even make up your own work out! You can workout for 5 minutes or 60 minutes. There are workouts for everyone. I will be using this more now that the weather is cooling down.
Runtastic.
This keeps track of your miles and calories, time, etc.

Here's to a better week! I will leave you with this... 8 fastest ways to burn 800 calories!

Motivation Monday

Today I'm going to talk about what we all lose in our weight loss journey and that is mOtiVaTiOn!
It's so easy to lose motivation, I lose it all the time, even a couple times a day!
And with my recent slip up at Red Lobster I feeling a little discouraged.
Here is a lesson I need to study myself:
And this is me going through the different stages:

Excitement:
Yes! I'm going to lose 10lbs, I'm going to look so good, and I'm going to fit in my jeans!

Planning:
I'm going to work out everyday-join the gym, run 3 miles.  I'm going to eat my fruits and veggies and absolutely no sweets.

Doing:
I hate working out! and If I have another apple I will chuck it at someones head instead of eating it! I want something sweet...I'm craving it!

Justify: (Delilah, you have hit the danger zone)
I really don't need to lose the weight anyway, whats another 10 lbs?  I'll work out tomorrow, besides, I did use the stars a lot today.

Choose....are you going to give up and eat those brownies? What about the chex mix?
No! get out of the danger zone!

You will experience these stages many times during your journey...now that you know what's going on you can identify it and move past it till you achieve it.

Achieve....you made it and now you have an after picture.

Now, If I can just get the the "achieve" stage!
Some tips I have found helpful:
Change it up...I'm always changing my workout before I get sick of it. Its my diet that needs help.I get in a routine where I will eat the same foods and right now if I have another spinach shake I will vomit. ...this is the danger zone to me because that's when I start looking at garbage foods.or wanting to go thru a drive thru and justify how the foods aren't that unhealthy...yeah right.
I recently tried cauliflower Patties and wasn't too crazy about them.
I baked some sweet potatoes. They were so good I didn't even need to dress it up. sweet potatoes are a super food!  1 small sweet potato has 4g of fiber and 2g of protein. It is also good for your skin, stabilizes your blood sugar and also helps with your digestive tract! Its important to stay regular!  Anyways, gotta go~ I'm repainting my kitchen cabinets!

I'll leave you with a pix of my cheerleader!

Eating out

My husband it not a very healthy guy. He ALWAYS eats out and I don't join him all the time but I will eat out with him about 2-3 times a month.  I hate it but I love spending time with him so I go.
Have you ever figured out how many calories are actually in one dish?
We went to Outback Steakhouse and there was a little leaf symbol at the bottom of the menu that said all meals with this symbol are under 600 calories.  WHAT? So all the meals that didn't have the leaf next to it were 600+ calories? which mean they probably averaged around 900-1200 calories.  I couldn't believe it so I ordered the house salad and chicken tortilla soup and water and it was very filling :)

Another fyi, when we would eat at Chili's I would get the quesadilla explosion salad. Well the other day I just saw online that the explosion salad is 900-1300 calories depending on if you eat all the quessadillas.
Can you believe that? I about fell off my chair!   So the other day we go to Chilis and now that I have that info the most healthy thing I could find on the menu was the chips and salsa with guacamole. MMMM, they put cilantro in there avacado dip and avacados are healthy, same with salsa, the chips not so much but I had to compromise.

I do have to say that I snuck and got on the scale on Friday morning and this is what it read:
down another .6lbs!  however I don't think I will see that # for a while. I went out to eat with my husband and Red Lobster friday night and I got the Shrimp nachos and now the scale has gone up :( I don't know how I'm going to lose this weight!!!  Its impossible with a husband that wants to eat everything and ANYTHING. Because the next day he ordered pizza and hot wings for dinner. (i should have taken a picture) it smelled so good but I didn't have any.  And if your going to say "why don't you cook for him" I do cook. I cook almost every night however he will not touch the stuff I cook.
So my next weigh in will be this wednesday. I have 3 days to get that scale to read 148.4 or lower.

My 10lb Journey weigh in

So are you ready? Today is Wednesday and it is my weigh in!  I'll show you what the scale read:
I could not believe it. Last week I weighed 151.2 so I have lost 2.2 lbs in one week! Do you want to know how?  My diet. It has to be my diet! Or maybe running? I have been running about 3 miles a day...maybe it's both? I found an article about diet being 80% of weight loss, see here:

http://fasteasyfit.blogspot.com/ puts it all in prospective. Eat all natural foods!   You don't need to focus on spending 3 hours in the gym do 30 minutes of interval training instead.

Don’t make the common fitness mistake of trying to simply “sweat” the fat off with lots and lots of long, boring, steady-state cardio workouts (treadmill jogging, stationary bike ride, elliptical machine striding, etc). There’s a much more efficient, fun, and safe way: bodyweight workouts.

Every other day do a short (20 minutes max) workout based around the most effective bodyweight exercises like push-ups, pulls-ups, squats, lunges, inverted rows, dips, and burpees. Throw in short, high-intensity interval training sessions (aka HIIT workouts) based around bodyweight cardio like sprints, box jumps, rope jumping, etc. Keep the workouts brief but intense and never try to “kill” yourself or you’ll end up getting hurt or becoming over-trained very quickly.

The key to working out for the fastest and best possible fat loss results is intensity and quality of exercise. High-volume, low-quality workouts can work over the short run. But higher-intensity bodyweight training is definitely the most efficient form of exercise because it stimulates the metabolism, causes powerful hormonal changes, burns fat for hours after the workouts are completed, and builds/preserves lean muscle all at the same time (and with minimal risks or energy or over-training!).

Exercise: Intense, Full-Body Calisthenic Workouts

One of the most efficient ways to burn fat rapidly while also building/toning lean muscle at the same time is to do short (20 - 30 minute), high-intensity workouts based around bodyweight calisthenics like free squats, lunges, dips, push-ups, pull-ups, inverted rows, etc. These workouts can be done almost anywhere and do a fantastic job of jump-starting your metabolism while protecting vital lean muscle mass.

For the best, and fastest, results do a full-body strength workout every other day. Do some form of light cardio on the other days. Give yourself a full "off" day every 7 - 10 days. Definitely don't go overboard and try to do too much volume or intensity. The goal is to just stimulate your body's natural fat-burning mechanisms and "good" hormone production, leading to quick fat loss and a fitter, sexier-looking body in a matter of days or weeks.

With that being said I'll share 2 new recipes I tried this weekend.
1st I made some pumpkin protein bites:

My recipe came from Shawncanblog
They are not too bad and I like how they have 10 grams of protein and no wheat or flour.
It was perfect timing that I found this recipe. I was getting sad because I really wanted to make zucchini bread but I was so afraid to make it thinking I would eat it but I made the zucchini bread the same time I made these pumpkin muffins that way when I smelled the lovely aroma I could reach for one of these healthy protein bites to eat.
Just stir your dry ingredients and combined them with your liquid ingredients and throw them in the oven for 25 minutes.
This is what mine looked like. not quite as scrumptious looking as the ones on ShawncanBlog.
But they don't taste half bad. I actually enjoy them. The recipe makes 9 muffins. I just freezed 5 and put the rest in the fridge. these will be good to have 1 daily. It's just like a protein bar without all the sugar.
I also tried another batch swapping the pumpkin out for banana and it wasn't that good. for some reason it was more dry and it didn't have much taste.

The 2nd recipe is a protein shake that I made up myself.
Ingredients:
1 frozen banana
1 scoop protein powder
some almond milk
spinach
1 dollop of greek yogurt

I figured its about 270 calories but it has alot of protein and it is very filling and  healthy!
For me eating clean is not hard. I was already eating fruits and veggies so I just had to eliminate a few things from my diet.  I'm hoping I can keep this positive attitude going thru the rest of the week.

10lb Challenge

You may think this is a sewing or crochet challenge however I am changing it up a bit!
Running is what I have been doing lately.   I have taken time out of sewing to enjoy the weather while trying to lose a couple more pounds. The weather has been perfect so I feel like I need to be outside!
Wanted to share some pix of the trail I've been on:
Beautiful Right?
This is the beginning of my 28 day Running Streak!

A new subject on my blog will be Wednesday weigh in. I want to lose at least 5 pounds going into the holiday season. 5lbs may not seem like a lot but it is still hard!! The last 10 pounds is always hard. This is no doubt a challenge and who can pass up a good challenge? I know my blogging friends LOVE challenges!!  I have challenged myself to run for 28 days straight! Let me rephrase that... run 2.5-3miles everyday for 28 days. Right now I am on day 11.
When we get so consumed with crafts, sewing and painting and everything DIY it's hard to find time to work out but it is very important to make time. You have to set aside time to stay in shape!
I have attached some links that will convince you to workout and hopefully that will light a fire under your you know what!

What you can expect from me:
Every Wednesday I will weigh in and post my results and (crossing my fingers) hopefully I can inspire you!
The most important thing I have had to come to terms with is controlling my diet. You have to eat clean,  that is more important than working out ( believe it or not) if you are addicted to sweets like me then you will want to take a sweet tooth challenge  just take it one day at a time like I did.
When you get the urge to eat the entire pan of brownies,  just tell yourself if you can get through today then you'll be able to have sweets tomorrow...
then by the time tomorrow comes you'll be so proud of not having sweets the day before that you continue not to have any for the next day so then by the time 3 days have passed you will have overcome your craving!  Easier than you thought right?
My triggers or weaknesses would be trail mix ,oreos, chex mix and banana bread therefore I never, ever eat them! If I took a bite I would never be able to stop! Now that may be different for most of you. Some people can have sweets in moderation but I can't. I'm like an alcoholic only with sweets...I just can't stop at 1 bite.
And when it comes to working out.... just do it!!!  don't think about it. So many times I have thought about it and I thought myself out of working out but you have to stay with it.

Even as I'm writing this I am craving something sweet. well you know what? Every time you get a craving get down and do the plank for 30 seconds!
I had to share this picture because every time I get down to do my sit ups or push ups my doggy has to join me. He comes and sits right next to me. I think he is checking to make sure I have proper form. He is just there to support me mostly :)

check back next week for my results and I will also be blogging about the different diets that I've tried and share some healthy recipe ideas!

Oct 10th-Staying motivated and my workout playlist.

Now is the hard part. I obviously have to post my weight......ughh I hate this part but how are you going to know if I lose if I don't tell you?  Will you just take my word for it? can I just post a picture? Actually I think when I weigh in next wednesday I will post my weight.  Sorry guys...please be patient with me.

Until next time.....
