Navy Stripes

F I N A L L Y! I finished the quilt top on this one.
It took me a while because I'm not too crazy about the fabric. I had to force myself to finish it.

I'm also going to quilt this on my machine, I'll do straight line quilting. I decided to use the basting spray and since the quilt was pretty big I didn't want to be stepping on it  to smooth out the middle so I grabbed my painting stick and a clean paint sponge to smooth it out, I have to say it was a great idea.

And even though I used the basting spray I still felt like I need to pin a little, so I did a
little not alot.

And have you ever basted a quilt on the carpet and when you go to pick it up it's stuck to the carpet?  Well by using the basting spray it made it so easy to pin because the back fabric is actually sticking to the batting instead of grasping the carpet. look how smooth the back is when i folded it over.  I guess the real test will be after I quilt it. We will see if the spray is worth it.

how to quilt it?

So I have completed this cute wall hanging, binded it cuz I thought it was done...but now?
 Not so sure.
Everything is appliqued on there, I got this super cute pattern from the quilt festival. Now all I need to figure out is how to quilt it. What I did on this first is blanket stitch around the words and pumpkins with the batting and backing already put together but now I don't know if I should go thru and quilt the background or leave it the way it is?
...should I leave it or do something on the black background? Should I just stipple it? Or should I go thru with black thread and outline the leaves and letters?
 I don't know  :(

Bloggers Quilt Festival

I am presenting  Flock O' Geese!
I saw this quilt in Elm Creek Quilts books and had to make one myself! I just love the little triangles. And I made it from some leftover Urban Couture fabrics.

What I learned most is to iron..actually "Press" Press, Press.

I just love the little triangles! And another thing that was helpful is measure 1/4 away from the point. It is very important that you always leave 1/4 alowance or else you will just sew off the tip of the triangles...and again, press-not iron.

I also quilted and binded this myself. What I really wanted to do is straight line quilting but did not know where to run the lines thru so I just did an allover stippling on the long arrm.

The binding is also from the Urban couture line and I did a blind stitch on the back of the binding.
Oh and It's kinda exciting to mention that I entered this is my local County Fair and it won 1st place in it's category.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my quilt...Make sure to check out all the others.

To quilt or not to quilt?

I saw this saying in a local quilt shop but it was written on a wood block.
So of course I thought it would look great on a mini quilt hanging on my sewing room wall!
To Quilt or not to quilt??  That really is a silly question...haha.

Book Cover

My daughter needed a new book cover for her history book, it is required from her teacher that she has one and since it is the middle of the year none of the stores had book covers so I had to make one..Darn! :)   And All a Dollar had a pack of 2 bandana's for 1buck so I decided to make the bookcover out of it.
I did some straight line quilting going thru it.

And I just left the batting exposed, with the book on it no one would see that part anyway.

Oh and it was cool because there were no raw edges which made it super fast to make.

And it fits like a glove!
Thanks for looking.

Halloween Quilting

It's been a couple weeks since I was able to participate in Sew N' Tell...
I had so much fun putting this together.

So the applique frog, cat and boot is from a pattern i purchased from Chitter Chatter Design at the quilt festival.   I made up my own layout.

So lately I think I have been overthinking how I'm going to quilt a certain project that I almost think I ruin it...I never know how I should "quilt" a quilt.  I almost think I should have just stippled through the whole thing. But I do still like it. I guess with experience comes better quilting decisions.

I do like the swirls though!                                                   Make sure you check out the rest of the projects on Amylouwho Blog!

Strawberry Shortcake

On this one I decided to try the spray basting and do it on my sewing machine (instead of the longarm)
So I decided to buy this basting spray. It was $10.99 but I used my 50% off coupon.

And I think it turned out great!
This is just a panel that I picked up from Joanns. I had so much fun quilting it...

I did big swirls in the balloons and a couple around the shortcake

Then I did some fun mini swirls in between some of the borders.
This is the last of the Charity quilts and I am done, done done!
I pulled these last three out of the dryer today!! I am so glad I made these but I'm just as happy to have them done! Now I can work on my holiday projects.

Secret Santa

I just got my email with the info on who I'm quilting for!
And guess what....yep, i have already started it. Sadly though that does not mean it will be done anytime soon! haha.

I just could not wait to cut into these fabrics! Don't you love them? I bought them as a bundle at the quilt festival. I think it will be enough to make a couple projects.

And here is the info on the secret santa...

Quilt Festival

I am so excited i went! It was me, my mom n law and my grandmother, what a wonderful day!
It was held at the Zermatt Resort in Midway, Ut! It was a beautiful resort.

The quilts were amazing! This one was mostly applique, i wish you could see the details, this was in the quilt show and this is what I voted as my favorite!

Check out the hand quilting on this one, its a closeup of this quilt below...

And I love how they did the quilting on this one. I have got to try this.

And of course...the sewing quilt!

Oh so cute!

Next year the Quilt Festival will be in Provo...I cannot wait!

And hopefully in the next few posts you will see what I bought! I have been busy, busy, busy.

My ORGANIZED sewing room.

It was a bit overwhelming at first. Right here it looks like my cabinet threw up!

But then I took a trip to ikea and got some good deals! I installed this red plastic bin to the door of my cabinet...pretty cool huh? I didn't want any wasted space in this thing. Oh and these red bins came in a set of 5 with the hanging hardware for $5bucks! not too bad.

Then Bed Bath and Beyond had these stacking bins on sale for $4.99. I just need to put some
 cute labels on them.

Then I got this rail from IkEA for $1.99 and the clips came in a package for .99cents!
What a great deal huh?

And I love these bins...just not sure what I'm going to put in them.
Each bucket is .99cents at ikea and they can even hang in a drawer or they have the option of hanging directly on the wall.

And I just have to show you how much I love this set up. This portion pulls out (for a keyboard) so I have a mini iron board set up. Then where the pens are suppose to be I have all my sewing tools like my seam ripper, scissors, rulers, etc.  How convenient huh? I think it's even better than a sewing table.  (although I've never even checked out the specifics of a sewing table so I really don't know)

And then I finally hung up a quilt. Can you believe of all the quilts I have finished I never displayed one of 'em?  I actually want to make a couple mini ones as well. (I actually have one in the works right now)  But anywho...this is what I have been doing all weekend.

Sew N Tell Friday!

Another quilt for charity! And this is about the only part of the quilt I like...the binding.
I messed up in so many ways on the quilting part of it. I bought some hobbs lofty batting (1st time) but then I ended up quilting little  flowers all over it which defeats the purpose cuz all I did was compress the batting down so it doesn't even look fluffy!  But that was not the plan...my machine was giving me problems, Thread Breaking!!! yeah, my thread was breaking everytime I would do big loops so I had to keep the flowers really small.
And now the quilt doesn't even lay flat?? Hopefully that will change after I wash it  however I am also afraid to wash it...what if the colors bleed? This is not designer fabric and I don' t want the color to get all over the white...what do you think?

Then I did just one fabric on the back, nothing too exciting. But I like the print. They are ice cream Sundae's. Which you can see a closeup in the first pix.

Anywho, I don't think I have ever been so hard on myself about a quilt before. I think I am just done with the whole charity quilts for a while! lol. But I'm sure all you quilters no how hard it is to finish a project. I have been dying to work on other things but committed myself to making 10 quilts for  Charity by Oct. 23rd. This is my 8th quilt!
Thanks so much for looking.
